Description
The GlenAllachie Sinteis Series Part IV continues the distillery’s exploration of innovative wood maturation, this time bringing together two traditional sherry cask styles with the distinctive influence of Mongolian virgin oak.
Sinteis, meaning “synthesis” in Scottish Gaelic, reflects the idea behind the series: combining contrasting yet complementary cask types to create new expressions of GlenAllachie’s character. Part IV takes a slightly different approach from previous releases in the series.
Distilled in 2015, the whisky was initially matured separately in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. These parcels were then brought together before being transferred into Mongolian virgin oak for further maturation. The result combines rich sherry-cask flavours with the additional spice and structure provided by the virgin oak.
The nose offers baked pastries and butterscotch alongside brandied orchard fruits, cocoa and treacle tart, followed by cinnamon and crystallised ginger. On the palate, candied hazelnuts and baking spices meet plum syrup, spiced orange and vanilla ice cream. Mocha, mānuka honey and fig jam provide further richness and depth.
Bottled at a powerful cask strength of 58.5% ABV, with natural colour and without chill filtration, Part IV is a bold and particularly distinctive addition to the Sinteis Series.
